Dr. Ratna Karuna brings over two decades of experience in successfully integrating academic research excellence with innovative industry leadership. As an industrial scientist in the field of Translational R&D, she plays a pivotal role in transforming fundamental scientific discoveries into impactful, market-ready products. Her career spans strategic roles in leading organizations such as Novartis (Switzerland and Singapore) and A*STAR, and she has served in top-level management as Head of the R&D Department at a biotechnology company in Singapore. Her expertise covers a wide spectrum of product development and regulatory affairs, with hands-on experience working with major regulatory bodies including the U.S. FDA, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and Health Canada. She also has extensive experience in implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS) and has led testing laboratories toward achieving GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and ISO 15189 / 17025 accreditations. In product development, she is skilled in evaluating Technology Readiness Levels, applying Quality by Design (QbD) approaches, and is recognized as a CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls) expert within the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) framework for biotechnology products.

Dr. Ratna Karuna possesses deep expertise in instrumental analysis, particularly mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), with proficiency in a wide range of techniques including innovative method development and validation. Her expertise is applied across various areas such as metabolism and disposition studies of chemical compounds in the body, preclinical testing (pharmacology and toxicology), biomarker analysis, and biotechnology (bioprocessing). Her scientific contributions are reflected in 14 Scopus-indexed publications, including in high-impact journals such as Nature (impact factor 50.5) and Science Translational Medicine (impact factor 15.8).
